Hugh James Findlay, Jr

Hugh James Findlay, Jr, 76, died August 15, at Bristol Regional Medical Center in Virginia. He was born in Bridgeport, to Janet Walker Findlay and Hugh Findlay, Sr, and lived in Newtown for more than 40 years prior to moving to Bristol, Va.

He served in the US Army during the Korean War. Mr Findlay was an active member of American Legion Post 24 in Derby, often personally assuring that families of fellow veterans received commemorative flags in their honor.

Mr Findlay never met a stranger, and was always quick with a joke or a helping hand. He will be missed by all of his friends and neighbors.

He is survived by his wife Betty Findlay. He also leaves two sisters, Margaret Krieder of Milford and Liz DeAngelis of Naugatuck; and his brother, Robert Findlay of Brewster, Mass. His loss will also be felt by several nieces and nephews and the letters from Santa that found their way to them.

A memorial service will take place Sunday, September 9, at 4 pm, at First Christian Church of Abingdon, 185 Jonesboro Road, Abingdon, Va. Private inurnment will be in Mountain Home National Cemetery in Tennessee.

 In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the American Legion Post 24, 230 Caroline Street, Derby CT 06418-1915.
