Joshua Freitas of Sandy Hook, graduated from Millbrook (N.Y.) School. While attending Millbrook, Josh was four-year varsity hockey team member and captain for three of those years, a four-year varsity lacrosse player, and a three-year cross country team member and captain for two of the three years. Joshua was also dorm leader and all school prefect in his last year. At the graduation ceremony Joshua was presented with the Sportsmanship Cup award, given to the male/female athletes who are examples to their classmates both on and off the field. Joshua plans to attend Bethel University, St Paul, Minn., this fall, where he will be studying biokinetics and will play on the Bethel University varsity hockey team.

Berklee College of Music, Boston, announced that Zachary Gordon of Newtown earned placement on the college’s Dean’s List for the spring semester of the 2011-2012 academic year. To be eligible for this honor, a full-time student must achieve a grade point average of 3.4 or above; a part-time student must achieve a grade point average of 3.6 or above at the college.

Newtown High School 2012 graduate Emily Ashbolt, pictured below with NBC Connecticut’s Kayla James, left, and Dunkin’ Donuts franchisee Kelly Andrade, right, was announced as a Connecticut Dunkin’ Donuts Franchises $1,000 scholarship award recipient at a recent ceremony at the Oakdale Theatre in Wallingford. The award was a part of the 2012 Dunkin’ Donuts Connecticut Franchisee Scholarship Program that provided a total of $50,000 in local scholarships to 50 high school seniors. Students were selected for the scholarship on the basis of a “well rounded” character, including a positive academic record, and demonstrated leadership in school and community activities.
