Children’s

Programs

*Register for Story Times: August 24 to September 4. Children must be at least 3 years old on or before September 10 to be eligible for one of our four story times: Mondays at 10 am and 1 pm, Tuesdays at 10 am or 11 am, or Wednesdays at 1 pm. Parents must reside in Newtown to be eligible for this free program.

*Between August 24 and September 4, register for Sensory Story Time to be held on Saturdays, September 15 to October 20, at 10 am, with Jessica Horvath, a certified speech and language pathologist. Sensory story time is a program designed to accommodate children with sensory processing differences as well as neurotypical children ages 3–5. Registration forms will be available at the children’s circulation desk.

YA Programs

*Calling Young Writers of Newtown in grades 6-12.  Be part of the first Newtown Arts Festival and read your poetry or selected prose to an appreciative audience on Sunday afternoon, September 16.  Sign up online or call Margaret Brown, YA Librarian, 203-426-4533.

*Great Tips and Practices for Sustainable Living: If you just want a recipe for refrigerator pickles, then skip this book and Google it. But if you want information about living a more sustainable, self-sufficient, home-grown lifestyle, then Daniel Gasteiger has written your bible: Yes You Can! And Freeze and Dry It, Too. Daniel will be at the library to share his food-preserving experience and tips on Thursday, August 30, at 7 pm. Register online or call.

*Two Workshops to Boost Your Job Search: “Tune Up Your Resume for Fall,” Tuesday, September 4, at 7 pm; and “Getting the Most Out of LinkedIn,” Tuesday, September 18, at 7 pm.

Both workshops are free and taught by Bill Florin, a certified professional resume writer. Call the library to register.

*Nonfiction Book Group: River of Doubt by Candice Millard on Tuesday, September 11, at 1 pm; Evening Book Group: Fall of Giants by Ken Follett on Thursday, September 20, at 7:30 pm; and Daytime Book Discussion: One Good Turn by Kate Atkinson on Monday, September 10, at 1 pm.

*An M&M Production of Nora and Delia Ephron’s adaptation of Love, Loss, and What I Wore on Sunday, will be on September 23, at 2 pm. The program is free but space is limited; register online.

*Meet the Author: Marni Graff will be visiting the library on Monday, September 17, at noon to discuss her new mystery, The Blue Virgin. Join us for an enjoyable afternoon. Refreshments will be served.

*A Hidden Gem at the Library: Did you know that the library has DVD copies of the local cable medical show, Dr V On Call? The show covers the full range of health and medical topics with local physicians. Available on the main floor.
