This week’s winners were John O’Connor and Jason Conlin, with 8.5 points. Second place went Dr. Calbo and Dr. Manoni with 4.5.

Two Day ABCD

The Two Day ABCD did not disappoint as once again the winning team needed a last putt on the last hole to drop in order to clinch the victory. The ABCD tourney format consists of taking the two best ball scores of the foursome and adding them up, having par at 140.

Day one began with a few notable teams cruising along such as Team 7 (consisting of A. Frank Gavel, B. Jeff Fetchick, C. Rick Eaton, and D. Jack Duffy) posting a 17 under 123, but right on their tails was Team 12 (A. Dave Cornett, B. AJ Cappelli, C. Gary Sumple, D. Joe Golden) and Team 11 (A. Mike Portnoy, B. Bob McDonald, C. Rick Varnum, D. Bob Tendler), posting a 15 under 125, and a 14 under 126, respectively. Team 4 (A. Bob Houle, B. Jason Conlin, C. Dennis Brestovansky, D. Dave Prosia) came out firing on the front nine, posting a 10 under 60, but cooled off on the back ending at 10 under for the day. A surprise team took the spotlight with new member Monty Singh leading his Team 2 group, including Roy Hornbeck, Jason Campbell, and Tony DiPerrio to a 20 under 120. The bar was set and the only question remaining was whether Team 2 could hold on to its early lead or if the pressure would become too much.

Day 2 picked up where Day 1 ended with some great early scores being posted. Trying to make a push to the top was Team 1 (A. Chris Watson, B. Graham Fyffe, C. Jon Briggs, and D. Imran Mahar) posting a front nine 62, pulling them within 4 of the lead, but a 4 under 66 on the back gave Team 1 a total of -20, not enough to take the gold. Another solid front nine for Teams 11, 7, and 12 put the pressure on Team 2 to post a good front nine score. Holding on to the lead, Team 2 posted a 4 under 66 on the front nine, making their lead now only 1 over Team 7 and Team 11, and two shot lead over Team 12. With nine holes left to play, it was still anybody’s game.

First group of the four in contention to come in was Team 11, posting a 16 under 124 to get to -30 for the tournament. A great showing had Team 11 members feeling very good about their chances. Next to come in was Team 12 and after opportunities slipped through the team’s fingers, the final score of -26 under came up just short. Next to come in was Team 7 which had grinded on the last few holes including making a crucial par on 18 gave them a total score of -27 under, currently in second place. Last but not least was Day 1 leaders Team 2. After a birdie on 17, Team 2 pulled to within one stoke of Team 11 and needed a birdie, birdie finish on 18 to win outright. If they were to get 1 birdie, they would tie Team 11 and head to a four hole playoff. After a shot just short of the green by Tony DiPerrio, Roy Hornbeck hit his best shot of the day, sticking his tee shot to 3 feet of the pin, a very makeable birdie attempt. Jason Campbell pulled his tee shot left and Monty Singh came up just short on the right side. Team two needed Hornbeck to make his birdie and have one of the remaining players get up and down to have a chance. A near make by Tony DiPerrio left him a 6 footer for par, but he just missed, leaving him a chance for a 4. Monty Singh hit a great second shot and made his par putt, making Hornbeck’s birdie that much more important. Not to be outdone, Jason Campbell hit his best chip of the day trickling the ball to within 5 feet of the hole. With Campbell getting a stoke on 18 and Hornbeck in with birdie, This last putt would decide playoff, or victory. A great chip shot followed up by a great putt gave Team 2 a one shot advantage over Team 11 and the victory for the 2012 Two Day ABCD.

Junior Club Championship

Scott Caggainello, defending champion, found himself in a dog fight with Josh Houle, and Thomas Gavel after the front nine, but as champions tend to do Caggainello found his game on the back nine shooting an even par 35, 78 total and an 8 shot victory.

Runner Up was Josh Houle, who played very well but faltered a little down the stretch. Houle, however, still came away with the 14 and under victory with his 86, with runner-up on a scorecard playoff going to Colin Patrick who shot a 93.

Defending girls’ champion Shelby Vertula had some competition this year as 12 year old Sarah Houle decided to move up and try and take down the champ. It was a dog fight the whole match, but the veteran Vertula found a way to win, shooting a 91 to Houle’s 95.

The 12 and under Boys Division battle was back and forth after each hole. Defending champion Ryan Patrick had the lead for most of the round, but new member Abir Singh kept clawing his way back to the top and when it was all said and done, Singh stood alone on top with Ryan Patrick the runner-up.

In the 12 and under girls’ division, Rebecca Gavel played her best round of the year, posting a 62 to become this year’s champion. Runner-up was Grace Murray.

The 10 and under division saw each participant score within a few strokes of each other and Matthew Weisgerber took home the gold with Kyle Murray finishing second.

Andrew Flynn once again played great and won the 8 and under division with ease.
