Friends of Newtown Seniors (FONS) has a pair of events planned in upcoming weeks.

The next Dinner Social is being planned for Wednesday, August 30, beginning at 5 pm. This month’s event will be at Dragonfly in Bethel.

Checks will be the responsibility of each guest, and reservations are required. For those who have not yet been to the recently opened restaurant the menu can be previewed at dragonflyct.com.

Contact Janice Garten, at 203-304-9196, to make a reservation.

Then on September 8, FONS will continue its presentations of the AARP HomeFit Program.

The presentation will be based on a publication from AARP that offers smart ways to make a home comfortable, safe, and a great fit for not only senior citizens but all ages. It will focus on three areas of the home: hallways and stairs, kitchens, and bathrooms.

A similar presentation was offered in late May at Newtown Senior Center.

Copies of AARP HomeFit Guide will be provided to each participant. The 36-page fully-illustrated guide “is about homes, not houses,” also according to the organization. It includes more than 100 tips and suggestions, broken down by room, doable regardless of housing type (single family dwelling, apartment house, etc) or ownership status (owner or renter).

The next presentation is planned for Friday, September 8, 10:30 am until noon. It will be offered this time at NYA Sports & Fitness Center, 4 Primrose Street.

Reservations are required and must be done by September 6 through NYA; telephone 203-426-0088 extension 106.

Light refreshments will be provided and a safety gift will be offered to each participant.
