Occupation: My primary occupation is raising my daughters. Beginning in October I will be teaching swimming on Saturday mornings at Newtown High School through Parks and Recreation. I’ve been teaching swimming for 20 years. I am certified by the Red Cross as a water safety instructor and also have CPR. I previously worked as a field marketing manager in North Brunswick, N.J., for Dunkin’ Donuts. It was a great job. I earned an MBA in management science from UConn and a BA in economics from UCONN concurrently as a University Scholar.

How Long in Newtown: I have been a resident for three and a half years. Prior to Newtown, I lived in Fairfield for seven years. I grew up in Norwalk.

Biggest Change Seen in Town: Within three and a half years, what originally seemed like a big town with lots of strangers is now a small town with lots of friends. This is home. It’s a nice town, and people are friendly.

Family: My husband, Stephen, and I have been married for 12 years. We have two daughters, Danielle, 5, and Nicole, 4.

Hobbies: Camping, swimming, hiking, exercising, crafts, and projects with our girls and their friends. I make beaded socks, and like to make birthday presents, such as barrette dolls. I make dresses for my girls, and like to make costumes. We made kitty cat and puppy dog ears and tails for parties. I also enjoy painting on t-shirts.

Favorite Books and Authors: I like to read. My favorite book is The Red Tent by Anita Diamant, which my book club is reading. It’s an excellent book. On my own I wasn’t reading a lot. Since I’ve joined the club, I’m not just reading the book for the club, but I’m reading others as well. Two of my favorite authors are Clive Cussler and Jonathan Kellerman. I also like to read child-rearing books, such as Parent Effectiveness Training by Thomas Gordon. It’s a course that is a behavioral model.

Organizations: I am a new Daisy troop leader and second vice president of the Business and Professional Women club. I also volunteer at Ashlar of Newtown and Lockwood Lodge. I am the activities chairman for Tot Tours, a Newtown Newcomers group. I also donate blood regularly. It makes you feel good. Through Red Cross, I am teaching Longfellow’s WHALE Tales (Water Habits are Learned Early), a program to promote water safety, for the pre-school program.

Most Vivid Memory of Newtown: I remember sitting out on my brother’s front porch on a Sunday afternoon and talking about how nice a community Newtown is, and contemplating a move here from Fairfield. Also, every time I catch the view of Main Street from Castle Hill, I think, what a beautiful town we live in. It’s picturesque.

Favorite Vacation Spot: Anaeho’omalu Bay beach in Hawaii. We became engaged to be married there.

Personal Philosophy: It coincides with the Girl Scout Law – to do my best to try to be honest and fair, friendly and helpful, considerate and caring, courageous and strong, responsible for what I say and do, respect myself and others, respect authority, use resources wisely, make the world a better place, and be a sister to every Girl Scout.
