Newtown High School’s (NHS) Class of 2030 received a warm welcome from staff and upperclassmen alike on Tuesday, August 25.

Over 70 upperclassmen volunteered to be on the NHS Flight Crew, which was tasked with welcoming incoming freshmen before the 2026-27 school year officially kicked off on August 27.

This gave freshmen a chance to see NHS for the first time, learn their schedules, get acquainted with each other, and more. Freshmen were sorted into one of 37 groups, each with two NHS Flight Crew members.

These student guides showed the freshmen around the school and had them fill out letters to their future selves, which they will not open until they are about to graduate.

Also there ready to welcome in the new freshmen were many NHS staff members, who were decked out in NHS Flight Crew shirts as well.
