Students arrived for the start of the 2021-22 school year at Hawley Elementary School on August 30.

As students stepped off buses, teachers greeted them with signs, helpful directions, and cheer. Hawley Principal Christopher Moretti welcomed students and, when everyone was assembled outside the school, gave the direction to enter the building and start the school year.

Similar scenes were no doubt at all of Newtown's public schools on Monday for the start of the 2021-22 school year.

District parents can submit photos for possible publication in the September 3 print edition of The Newtown Bee by 8 am tomorrow (Tuesday, August 31).

Photo submissions should include the name of the students pictured, from left to right; the school they attend; and the name of the person who took the photo. Parents can e-mail photos to Education Reporter Eliza Hallabeck, eliza@thebee.com.
