Richard Joseph Roman

Richard Joseph Roman, 85, of Newtown, husband for 64 years to Rita Roman, died peacefully at home, August 25, after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Waterbury, October 1, 1926, the son of Catherine (Galgot) and Joseph Roman. Mr Roman attended St Joseph School and Crosby High School in Waterbury. He then attended a state technical school in Putnam, H.H. Ellis.

He was employed by National Airlines in Miami, and continued to work for Pan American Airlines when the company merged. His travels took him to Cuba, California, Florida, Washington, then internationally to England, France, Germany, and Ireland. He retired in 1986 as a pilot/flight engineer after 36 years, to his fondest destination: home in Connecticut. The Romans were residents of Newtown for 50 years.

In his earlier years, as a second job, he was co-owner of Manhasset Bay Outboard, Port Washington, N.Y., where he resided with his family, close to the New York airports.

Mr Roman’s favorite hobby was fishing, which brought him to many of the best fishing spots in New England. An avid golfer, he was a member of Rock Ridge and Newtown Country Clubs, as well as Heritage Village in Southbury.

His wife; two children, Paula Todd of Woodbury and David Roman, and wife Deborah, of North Granby; and four grandchildren survive Mr Roman. He was the father of the late Regis May Leven.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in St Rose of Lima Church, August 29.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org; or your charity of choice.
