Fall Softball For U10 Girls

 

Anyone girl who is U10 eligible is welcome to come and play informal softball games at the Newtown Middle School on Sunday’s at 4 pm. Games will begin Sunday, September 10, and run through October. Any questions, call Nancy Bowen at 426-7101.

Travel Basketball Coaches Needed

 

The Newtown Parks and Recreation travel basketball program is seeking coaches for girls’ and boys’ teams, grades 5 through 8, for the winter season. Anyone interested should call John Giorno at 270-9579.

Signups For The Cage

 

The Cage, a complete baseball training facility in the Black Rock section of Bridgeport, is accepting signups for its three Connecticut Wolfpack fall ball teams. The teams are open to recent Little League graduates, 13 to 14 years of age. Each team will play a 28-game schedule (Saturdays and Sundays) from mid-September through October against teams throughout the state. Cost is $320, which includes a full uniform. Breeze Summer Team Tryouts

 

The Connecticut Breeze 18-and-under girls’ fast pitch team will be holding tryouts for its summer 2001 team on Saturday, September 9, from 10 am to 2 pm, at the Brewster Field in Milford. Rain date is September 16. The team plans to play six tournaments (three local and three travel). If interested, please call Mark McCusker at 426-1501 to schedule an appointment.

Brewster Rockets Tryouts

 

The Brewster Rockets Girls’ fastpitch softball organization will be holding tryouts for the summer 2001 season on September 2, 3, 9 and 10 at Markel Park in Brewster. The schedule is U10 at 9 am, U12 at 10 am and U14 at 12 am on September 2; U16 at 9 am and U18 at 11 am on September 3; U18 at 9 am, U16 at 11 am, and U10 at 1 pm on September 9; and U14 at 9 am, U12 at 11 am, and anyone who missed their previous age slot at 1 pm on September 10. Shoot Straight Basketball Camp

 

The Shoot Straight Basketball Camp will hold a two-day shooting and offensive moves camp on Saturday, September 30, and Sunday, October 1, 9:30 am to 1:30 pm both days, at the Danbury War Memorial in Danbury, for boys and girls ages 8 to 18. Tuition for both days is $70. Camp will be directed by Chris Casey, head coach at Rutgers University in New Jersey. Call 1-203-746-4387 for further information.

Apple Harvest Road Race

 

The Apple Harvest Festival Road Race, sponsored by the Southington Chamber of Commerce, will be held on Sunday, October 1, at 9 am. There will be $1,800 in prize money, including $1,000 for lucky random finishers. Cost is $15 if registered by September 15 and $20 on race day (a Little Fritter Race will be held, as well, with a $3 charge for young runners). Race features t-shirts to the first 125 registered.
