Program On Children And Sports Injuries

WATERBURY — More than 30 million children participate in organized sports in the United states. However, each year more than three-quarters of a million children ages 14 and under are treated in hospital emergency rooms for sports-related injuries.

Children are at greater risk than adults from sports and recreational injuries since they are unable to assess the risks involved and have less coordination, slower reaction times, and less accuracy. Join orthopedic surgeon John Keggi, MD; Eileen Henzy, the coordinator of Connecticut Safe Kids; and a sports care representative for “Don’t Let Your Child be Sidelined! Preventing Sports Injuries,” on Thursday, September 21, at 7 pm in Waterbury Hospital’s Bizzozero Conference Room. The panel will discuss appropriate protective equipment, safe playing conditions, and safety rules parents need to keep in mind to prevent sports injury.

The forum is free. Pre-registration is required. Call 203/575-5200.
