Support And Generosity

To the Editor:

On August 14, our U14 Newtown Hawks competed in the Babe Ruth National tournament in Varina, Va. Our players represented our town and state admirably with their exceptional third place finish and with their exemplary behavior. It was an honor and a thrill for all involved to compete at this national level. Our journey to Virginia was exhilarating from start to finish. The games are now over but the memories of a national tournament experience will last a lifetime.

The generosity of our local businesses and members of our community overwhelmed our Babe Ruth Softball League. We sincerely thank Dunkin’ Donuts, Andrea’s Bake Shop, Stop & Shop, Franco’s Pizza and Olympia Sports for allowing the girls to fundraise outside of their establishments. Our deepest appreciation goes out to the following businesses that generously donated to our fundraising efforts; Caminuccio’s Pizza, The Taunton Press, Peoples Bank, Claris Construction, Lindell Hertberg, Family Electric Inc, Dodgingtown Garage, Bulk Materials Intl. Company, Edwards Construction, Dr Henry Gellert, Land and Sea, Newtown Florist, Sandy Hook Barber Shop, Supply Chains Solutions LLC, Appleberry Farm, Newtown Pizza Palace, Monroe Auto Appearance, Frates Custom Cabinetry, The Toy Tree, Pat MacInnis, and Mark and Lynn Macchiarulo.

To all those who wished us well and those who continue to congratulate the girls on their stunning accomplishments, we sincerely thank you. We also thank pitcher Mariale Renna for her help in preparing our players for a higher level of competition. Our players will proudly remember their successes in the national games that challenged them, but more importantly they will forever recall the tremendous support and generosity of our community.

Sincerely,

Nancy Bowen
