SOUTHBURY — Rocking Rooster Square Dance Club of Newtown, while based for decades in town, is currently based in Southbury.

Member Jan McClean reminds readers that while the club has history in Newtown and is at least temporarily based in Southbury, Rocking Roosters has long attracted dancers and audience members from Fairfield and New Haven counties, and even from New York state.

The club will offer two free dance parties next month.

The group will be in the church hall of United Church of Christ, 283 Main Street North (Route 6) in Southbury, on Tuesdays, September 13 and 20, 7:30-9 pm each week.

All are invited — no experience necessary — to join club members for a fun evening in a safe, alcohol-free environment. Singles and couples are welcome. Dress is casual.

Guests can join either or both events, learn about the club, and try some dancing.

Remember, says McClean: square dancing is just walking to music.

Reservations are not necessary but additional information is available by contacting McClean at 203-926-0873.

The longstanding club is inviting anyone with an interest in square dancing to join them for either or both of two upcoming dance parties in September. —Bee file photo
