RSO Competition

For Young Musicians

RIDGEFIELD — The annual Music Performance Competition  sponsored by Ridgefield Symphony Orchestra has again been opened to music students in grades 6 through 12 in Fairfield and Westchester counties. Applications are being taken this month for the October 15 auditions, to be conducted at Veterans Park Elementary School.

Now in its sixth year, the competition regularly attracts talented players in the strings, winds and piano from schools throughout the area who are provided the opportunity to display their talents in front of an all professional panel of judges. The winners will then appear during a Winners’ Performance on November 6 in Ridgefield.

An application fee of $20 must be enclosed with the application. Applications must be postmarked by August 26, and they will be accepted as received by postmark.

Auditions will begin at 10 am on October 15. Auditions are limited to seven minutes, which will be strictly enforced.

Cash prizes will awarded to first, second and third place winners.

A Grand Prize Winner, who must play a movement of a concerto with orchestral accompaniment, will also be selected and invited to perform with Ridgefield Symphony Orchestra at a concert for the children in grades 3-5 of the Ridgefield public schools next spring.

Pre-registration is required for the competition, which is limited to the first 25 applicants.

Applicants can request enrollment forms from the RSO office, 203-438-3889, or by visiting www.RidgefieldSymphony.org.
