CERC, Monster Release Real Time Labor Market Data

HARTFORD — The Monster Employment Index, created in partnership with the Connecticut Economic Resource Center, Inc (CERC), is a monthly gauge of online job demand based on a real-time review of millions of employer job opportunities culled from a large representative selection of career websites and online job listings.

The July 2011 Monster Employment Index shows:

*Connecticut’s index grew 1 percent between June and July 2011

*Connecticut’s index was up 14 percent since January 2011

*Connecticut’s index grew in the last month, while New England was static and the United States declined

*The July 2011 index was equal to April 2011, but 23 percent below the April 2008 measure

*Connecticut’s July 2011 index was 15 percent below the nation

*Previous Connecticut highs since the start of the index include April 2011 and July 2010

The Monster Employment Index is a leading indicator because it shows the willingness of firms to offer job opportunities. As more job opportunities become available, it can be assumed that this will translate into additional job hires in the future.

CERC is collaborating with Monster Government Solutions, a subsidiary of Monster Worldwide, to offer Connecticut businesses, policymakers. and residents real time labor market data on a month-to-month basis through the Monster Employment Index.
