Frank J. Zalewski

Beloved Husband, Father, And Grandfather

Frank J. Zalewski, 86, beloved husband of Irene Zimmie Zalewski, and a 65-year resident of Bridgeport, died August 28, in St Vincent’s Medical Center. He was born in Dickson City, Penn., son of William and Lillian Sobkowiak Zalewski.

Mr Zalewski was a US Army veteran, serving during World War II.

Four children, June Galucci, and husband Tony, of Newtown, owner of Nick’s Restaurant in Danbury;  Jerry Zalewski, and wife Martha, of Enfield; Thomas Zalewski, and wife Karen, of Naugatuck; and Diane Zalewski of Bridgeport; six cherished grandchildren; brother-in-law Thomas Zimmie, and wife Judy; and godchild Carol Hayduk of Huntington survive Mr Zalewski.

Mr Zalewski worked for the Bullard Company for 39 years, first as a field service machine tool technician, and later as supervisor of facilities maintenance. He was a member of the Bullard Foreman’s Club, Lt Bower Catholic War Veterans Post #1466, Lt Owen Fish Memorial American Legion Post #143, the Disabled American Veterans, and a member of the Port 5 Naval Club.

In addition to spending time with his family, he enjoyed trout and saltwater fishing, especially with his grandsons, Tony and Ricky Galucci. He was the consummate mechanic, “Mr Fix It,” and loved working with tools. He was involved with his children in baseball and basketball, and supported his children and grandchildren’s friends, as well.

Funeral services took place September 1, in St Andrew Church, Bridgeport, with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment with full military honors followed in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull.
