Raccoons on Road

Police said motorist Matthew Deitz, 21, of New Milford was driving a 1991 Toyota MR-2 coupe southward near 63 The Boulevard about 9:50 pm on August 23.

Police report Deitz told them that he swerved to avoid hitting two raccoons on the road, but in doing so, lost control of the vehicle, crossed the road’s center line and then collided with a tree along the left side of the street.

Police said Deitz received a lip injury in the crash. Police said they issued Deitz an infraction for failure to drive to the right.

Forgery/Larceny

After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Larry Bailey, 61, of 301 South Main Street, Unit 23, turned himself over to police at the police station about noon on August 26, police said.

Police said they arrested Bailey on charges of first-degree forgery and sixth-degree larceny.

“The arrest stems from an incident in March 2011 in which counterfeit money was passed at a local business,” police said in a statement.

After arrest processing, police released Bailey on $100 bail for a September 8 court appearance.

Highway Crash

State police report that at about 6 pm on August 25, motorist Edward Metz, 43, of Woodbury, who was driving a 2011 Subaru Impreza eastward on Interstate 84 near Exit 9, slowed for traffic conditions and was struck from behind by eastbound motorist Alyssa Paesano, 18, of Brewster, N.Y., who was driving a 2006 Ford Freestyle.

The impact caused the Subaru to spin into some guardrailing on the highway median, state police said.

Karen Metz, 46, of Woodbury, who was a Subaru passenger, was transported by ambulance to Danbury Hospital to be checked for pain, state police said. State police said they verbally warned Paesano for following too closely.

Toyota Crash

State police report that motorist Jarrina Patwary, 36, of 215 Riverside Road was driving a 2002 Toyota Corolla in severe wet weather about 6 pm on August 27 on the Exit 10 on-ramp for westbound Interstate 84, when Patwary took a corner on the ramp at a speed too fast for conditions and the car went out of control, striking some guardcabling.

Patwary was not injured.

I-84 Collision

A two-car accident occurred about 500 feet west of Exit 11 on the eastbound lanes of Interstate 84 about 5 pm on August 25.

State police said motorist Jason Lane, 23, of Bethlehem, who was driving a 2009 Nissan Maxima, slowed for traffic conditions and was struck from behind by motorist Michael Ukers, 35, of Southington, who was driving a 2006 Chrysler Sebring.

There were no injuries. State police said they verbally warned Ukers for following too close.

Larceny Warrant

After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, a 17-year-old youth turned himself over to police at the police station on the afternoon of August 24 and was charged with fourth-degree larceny in connection with a May incident, police said.

After processing, police released the youth on a written promise to appear in Danbury Youthful Offender Court on September 12 for arraignment on the charge.

Because the person charged is under age 18, he are considered a youthful offender and his identity is shielded from disclosure by state law.

DUI Warrant

Police said they charged Daniel Toth, 21, of Bethel on a warrant on August 26 listing charges of driving under the influence and failure to drive to the right in connection with a nighttime motor vehicle accident that occurred on May 15 near the intersection of South Main Street and Bear Hills Road.

After processing on August 26, Toth was released on $100 bail for a September 13 court appearance, police said.

DUI Charge

Police said they received a call about 5:19 am on August 26 alerting them of a male in a motor vehicle located in the Russett Road/Gelding Hill Road area, so they went there to investigate the matter.

Police said that following their investigation, they arrested Kevin Brown, 19, of 49 Lakeview Terrace on a charge of driving under the influence by a minor.

Police released Brown on $100 bail for a September 9 court appearance.

Car Into Rails

State police report that motorist John Lardie, 49, of 2 Abbey Lane was driving a 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer westward in the left lane on Interstate 84, about 500 feet east of the Exit 10 off-ramp at about 3:23 pm on August 31, when the vehicle swerved out of the lane and struck the median’s metal-beam guadrailing.

Lardie was not injured. State police aid they issued Lardie a written warning for failure to maintain the travel lane and for distracted driving.
