Sherman Players Seeking Cast For British Christmas Panto Of ‘Sleeping Beauty’

SHERMAN — The Sherman Players are seeking a cast of seven women (ages 10 to 70) and 3 men (same age range) for its family holiday production of Sleeping Beauty. The work will be presented as a “Panto,” or Pantomime in the British style. To make it very clear: There is absolutely no miming in British pantomimes. None whatsoever. A Panto is like an American musical comedy with vaudeville routines. There are tuneful songs, funny jokes, and lots of audience participation. It is the perfect holiday show for children and adults alike, filled with fun, laughter, and happily ever after.

Auditions will be at The Sherman Playhouse, 5 Route 39 North (next to the fire station).

The first auditions will be Sunday, September 11, from 2 to 5 pm, for dancers only. There are roles for four ballerinas ,  ages 10-20.  Those auditioning should prepare a one-minute dance of choice along with a CD of music to which they can dance.

The second auditions, for singing and acting only, will be Monday and Tuesday, September 12-13, 7 to 9 pm. Bring an uptempo song on clearly marked sheet music (ladies should bring a belt or a soprano ballad or both). An accompanist will be provided. Also, be prepared to recite a short story, poem, or nursery rhyme, which will also be provided.

The production has been adapted and being directed by British native Patricia Michael of Dover Plains, N.Y. All roles are available; professionals and amateurs are welcome. No appointments are necessary.

For more details on the audition and for directions, visit ShermanPlayers.org. Ms Michael can also be contacted, at pmichaelsiegel@optimum.net or 845-877-0338, for additional information.
