Following is the lineup for Monday's 56th Newtown Labor Day Parade, as provided by the Newtown Labor Day Parade Committee. The theme of this year's parade of "Labor of Love," and longtime resident and FAITH Food Pantry President Lee Paulsen will serve as grand marshal.

Step-off is at 10 am from the corner of Currituck Road and Main Street. Marchers will follow Main Street to its end, turn left onto Glover Avenue, and then turn left onto and follow to the end of Queen Street.

The grandstand with judges and parade committee is traditionally in front of Bank of America on Queen Street.

Emcees are stationed on Main Street near the flagpole, Glover Avenue, and adjacent to the Judges Stand.

The national anthem will be led by Shelby Jones, a sixth grade student at Reed Intermediate School, who will be at the Judges Stand; Jennifer Padilla, at 10 Glover Avenue; Susan Lang, at the flagpole; and Megan Latte, a Newtown High School senior, at the Soldiers & Sailors Monument.

Participant Arrival & Public Parking

Participants are asked to be at their lineup position by 9:15.

In addition, those assigned to positions within the second, fourth and fifth divisions should note that Currituck Road will be one way - traffic will only be traveling south - starting around 8 am. Anyone not in place before that time will need to enter the line-up from Tunnel Road, and points north, proceeding south toward Main Street. Other side streets may provide limited access.

Residents and guests are also reminded that roads on and adjacent to the parade route, including Church Hill Road from Main Street to The Boulevard, will be closed to traffic by 9:40 am, according to Newtown Police Sergeant Jeff Silver. Without exception, all traffic will be diverted around the center of town until the end of the parade, which is expected to be around 1 pm.

This year's emcees will be Tom Bill Brimmer, Giordani, and Shelby Jones at 10 Glover Avenue; Susan Lang and John Voket at the flagpole; and Megan Latte, a senior at Newtown High School, at the Soldiers & Sailors Monument. An emcee may also be staged at the Soldiers & Sailors Monument, at the head of Hanover and Schoolhouse Hill Road.

According to the parade committee, public parking will be available at Queen Street Shopping Center, 6 Queen Street; Eton Center (home to Caraluzzi's Newtown Market and Bottle Stop Wine & Spirits), 5 Queen Street; Hawley School, 11 Queen Street; and St Rose Church, 46 Church Hill Road. A shuttle bus will be running from St Rose to Queen Street.

Parade organizers are reminding those planning to attend Monday's end-of-summer celebration that they should stand at attention and salute the American flag each time it passes by.
