Masonicare Names New Medical Director, Becomes Morrison Learning Center

Masonicare at Newtown on Toddy Hill Road has been designated as a Regional Learning Center for Morrison Senior Living, the dining services provider for Masonicare and one of the country’s largest senior living services providers.

“This designation is an honor,” said Thomas Gutner, president of Masonicare at Newtown. “We will be one of only 12 Regional Learning Centers in the country. New executive chefs, regional directors, dietitians, and dining service directors hired by Morrison in New England and New York City will spend time training here at Masonicare at Newtown.”

In other news, Masonicare at Newtown recently appointed Yvette Fernandez, MD, medical director. The health care facility, located on Toddy Hill Road, provides long-term nursing care, assisted living including memory care, and short-term and out-patient rehabilitation services for more than 200 residents and patients daily.

Dr Fernandez, a resident of Ridgefield, has extensive experience in hospital settings, physician practice, and nursing homes. In her role as medical director, Dr Fernandez will be responsible for assuring that Masonicare at Newtown’s patients and residents continue to receive the highest quality of medical care and support.

Prior to joining Masonicare, she was on staff at Phoenix Internal Medicine in Waterbury.

“Dr Fernandez is an accomplished and outstanding internist and geriatrician. We’re fortunate to have someone with her exceptional clinical skills, medical knowledge, and experience in the nursing home environment lead our medical team,” Mr Gutner said in a release about the appointment.

Dr Fernandez received her medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. She completed her internship and residency at Montefiore Medical Center and her geriatric fellowship at Our Lady of Mercy Hospital, both located in the Bronx. She holds a Connecticut license as a physician and is certified with the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Masonicare at Newtown is an affiliate of Wallingford-based Masonicare, Connecticut’s leading not-for-profit provider of healthcare and retirement living for seniors.
