The Art Of Painting With A Knife

The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will have an oil painting demonstration done with a painting knife by Joan Jardine on Wednesday September 8, at 7:30 pm. The subject will be a landscape.

This program is open to the public, free of charge, and will be in the lower meeting room at Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street in Newtown.

Joan Jardine is a New Englander, but has lived in different parts of the United States where she put down temporary roots and studied her craft. She has been a life long oil painter.

Formal training at North Texas State University and the Cape Cod School of Art has further honed her skills. It was at the Cape School that she fell in love with the impressionist palette, the painting knife and color.

In addition to her career as an oil painter, Ms Jardine has mastered the art of batiking, silk screening and faux finishing.

Mr Jardine is an elected member of the Connecticut Plein Air Painters Society and West Hartford Art League. Awards include  Woodstock School of Art Regional Exhibition (third place, 2006), and Award of Excellence from Connecticut Plein Air Painters Society 2006 and 2009. Her most recent award was received during “2010 CT + 5 Regional” at West Hartford Art League.

In addition, her paintings were chosen for the cover of Celebration of Connecticut Farms in 2009 and 2010.

Mr Jardine is on the faculty of Woodstock School Of Art, Woodstock, N.Y., and West Hartford Art League.

Reservations are not necessary for SCAN programs, but additional information is available from Ruth Newquist at 203-426-6654.
