Pet Portraits By Devereaux On View At The Newtown Municipal Art Gallery
The artwork of Wendy Devereaux will be at Newtown Municipal Art Gallery through the end of September.
Newtown Municipal Art Gallery, within Newtown Municipal Center at 3 Primrose Street, is open weekdays from 8:30 am-4:30 pm as well as late whenever there is a meeting at the municipal center. The gallery space is managed and curated by Newtown Cultural Arts Commission.
Working in varied media, Devereaux’s work is limited to commissioned portraits of animals.
“I don’t just draw dogs,” she has said, “I draw the kitties too! And any other crazy furry friends you may have!” And she draws on almost anything, including Christmas ornaments.
Her work can be seen on her Facebook page and her Etsy shop. She was also part of the Open-Air Art Gallery at Fairfield Hills sponsored by Booth Library in 2024.
Devereaux works in watercolor and colored pencil.
“It’s all about the layering,” she has said. ‘I look at their eyes. I see their soul there.”
A graduate of Western Connecticut, where her daughter Kiah is now a student, Devereaux earned a degree in graphic design. She spends her weekdays at Newtown Senior Center, where she is a Senior Assistant and often leads art programs.
She loves her work.
“Once I sit down to draw, I’ll be there for hours,” she has said.
Her customers are astounded by how realistic her work is.
“Once I saw her work on Facebook,” one client said, “I wanted to adopt them all.”
