Alzheimer’s Walk Needs Volunteers

BROOKFIELD — The Southern Connecticut Chapter of The Alzheimer’s Association will host Memory Walk 2001 at Rogers Park in Danbury on Sunday, October 14, at 10 am, rain or shine. Registration begins at 9 am. Memory Walk is the Alzheimer’s Association’s largest annual fundraiser.

Currently one in 10 persons over the age of 65 and nearly half of those over 85 have Alzheimer’s.

The Memory Walk committee is in need of support from the community to make this year’s event a success. Many committee members are already out asking businesses for various donations to help with the food, entertainment, volunteers, and team walkers.

There are many ways which individuals and corporations can get involved in this cause. Community based businesses are needed to help sell “footprints.” Footprints are sold for a small donation at area businesses. Currently footprints are available at The Village at Brookfield Common, 246A Federal Road in Brookfield.

In addition to corporate sponsors, raffle and gift items are needed as well as sponsors for registration tables and mile markers. Community volunteers are needed to help with the planning and organizing of the October 14 event. Contact Katie McMahon, retirement counselor at The Village at Brookfield Common, at 775-8696, or call Pat Papiano at Mediplex of Westport at 203-226-4201.
