Animal Enrichment At Beardsley Zoo

BRIDGEPORT — Zookeepers will demonstrate techniques they use to keep animals physically active and mentally stimulated at Beardsley Zoo during Animal Enrichment Day. The three-hour series will run from noon to 3 pm on Saturday, September 8.

Scent balls hidden in exhibits, ice blocks filled with fish or vegetables, and special food treats are some of the secrets staff members rely on at Beardsley Zoo. Some animals from the New World Tropics rainforest building will be showcased in the zoo’s Enrichment Playground, where visitors can view the pool where the iguana likes to splash around in, the perching tree the boa constrictors suns on, and ramps for rabbits to romp on. Children will be invited to make related crafts.

Admission to Beardsley Zoo is $6 for adults, $4 for children ages 3 to 11 and seniors, and free for children under 3 and members of Connecticut Zoological Society. The zoo, at 1875 Noble Avenue n Bridgeport (signs are posted from I-95 and the Route 25 Connector) is open 9 am to 4 pm every day except Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day.

For directions or other information, call 203-394-6565 or visit www.BeardsleyZoo.org.

Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo is open year-round and exhibits primarily North and South American animals, including many endangered and threatened species. Highlights include a New World Tropics rainforest, Victorian Carousel, New England Farmyard, pop-up prairie dog exhibit, and Victorian Greenhouse.
