Hospital Offers Diabetes Course

WATERBURY — The Be Well Center of Waterbury Hospital is offering a four-week series, “Living Well with Diabetes,” that will teach individuals how to balance their diet, activities, and medication.

Cindy Barrere, a clinical education consultant in the Center for Human Resources and Employee Education at Waterbury Hospital, will facilitate the series. Classes will meet Mondays, September 24 through October 15, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at the Be Well Center at the Brass Mill Center mall, upper level across from the food court. Cost of the four-week series is $25. For more information or to register, call 203-575-0730.

The following health care professionals are scheduled guest speakers: On Monday, October 1, Dr Robert Matusz, an attending podiatrist at Waterbury Hospital, will discuss the importance of proper and prompt foot care for diabetics and the complications that can arise from mistreatment. Registered dietitians Silvia Arisco and Marcie Garcia will discuss nutrition, menu planning, and healthy eating habits on Monday, October 8.
