Annual Open House Will Be September 6

BROOKFIELD â Brookfield Craft Center will offer the publicÂ an opportunity to tour its studios, explore its historic campus and see demonstrations by core faculty members in traditional and contemporary craft techniques at during its annual open house, which this year will be Sunday, September 6, from 1 to 4 pm.

This once-a-year opportunity to explore the center allows visitors to view the seven teaching studios and meet faculty members of this nationally known school, who will provide live demonstrations of skills that are taught in the craft centerâs ongoing education programs.Â

The demonstrations will include work in glass, ceramics, weaving, blacksmithing, woodturning, woodworking and jewelry. It is a chance to discover how learning craft skills can enable personal creativity and imagination.

Among those participating this year will be Carol and Wayne Smith of Newtown; he carves and she paints intricate wood carvings.

Admission is free and there is ample parking. Brookfield Craft Center is at 286 Whisconier Road (Route 25) just east of the âfour cornersâ intersection with Route 7/202. For more information, call 775-4526 or visit BrookfieldCraftCenter.org.

A lot of things have changed in Sandy Hook shopping area. The old bridge was no longer needed, the town helped create parking , brick sidewalks and classic street lights were added, and zoning was adjusted to add housing. Spending money on a bridge from nowhere makes no sense, focus on things that will add to the viability of the Sandy Hook Center.

I was the recipient of such a invasion of my privacy when my daughter was visiting her boyfriend in Waterbury. They tried to get me to pay them taxes instead of Newtown. They were rude, offensive and threatening and I had to call the mayor of Waterbury to finally get it cleared up after being threatened. It was a long drawn out process to get this overturned. Are we that broke that we have to turn our residents over to these mercenaries? This is beyond belief. How dare you hire these rent a cops to harass and threaten us?

Thanks for the quote, many people don’t realize Newtown does not exist in a silo and we have peers to benchmark against. For example Trumbull also spends less per student and outperforms us. ALL students benefit from consistent policies and quality education. Affordability matters, especially to less affluent families which tend to skew more heavily minority based on census data.
