FAIRFIELD — NAMI Fairfield will begin a Family-to-Family Education Program specifically for family members of persons diagnosed with serious mental illness on Monday, September 14. This free 12-week course will be held every Monday from 7 to 9:30 pm at the First Church Congregational, 148 Beach Road.

The course will cover information about schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, major depression, panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, borderline personality disorder, and other serious mental illnesses. It will teach coping skills such as handling crisis and relapse, listening and communication skills, and self-care around worry and stress.

It also provides basic information about medications as well as recovery and rehabilitation.

The course will be run by family members who have experience living with a loved one with mental illness. Class size is limited. For more information or to register call Rebecca at 203-259-9779.

NAMI is the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
