Audubon Walk At Old Quarry

The Lillinonah chapter of National Audubon Society is planning a tree and shrub identification walk at Old Quarry Nature Center in Danbury on Saturday, September 9. It will be led by Tom Philbrook, an assistant professor of biology at Western Connecticut State University.

Although the Old Quarry Nature Center consists of only 40 acres, it has a wide variety of plant life. Uplands, lowlands, wetlands, they all make a visit to the Old Quarry a delightful way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

The walk will be leisurely and will afford the chance to identify some of the many species of trees and shrubs as well as to learn some interesting plant lore. Participants should wear study footwear, bring insect repellant, and be prepared to walk on some uneven terrain.

The group will meet at 1 pm at Roger’s Park Pond. Call Barbara Starr at 203-748-2599 for details and directions to the meeting location, and to register. All are welcome and the walk is free of charge.
