A Very Good Start To Fifth Grade

To the Editor:

I would like to commend the staff and faculty at Reed Intermediate School for providing a smooth and informative transitional program for incoming fifth graders. Over the past two months they have hosted many events, including introductory sessions, tours, meetings, etc, for students and parents, all of which were carefully planned and professionally conducted. Informational materials prepared and distributed to parents and students were well thought out and extremely helpful. Most importantly, their program has been designed to make the transition from elementary school as comfortable and exciting as possible for students, and it works.

There were several times that I needed to contact RIS for information and I found every individual I spoke with very courteous and professional. Although the RIS building is almost six years old now, a walk through it gives one the impression that it just opened the day before. It is meticulously maintained inside and out. My visits to this school and contacts with many of its staff have given me the sense that it is probably the best run school in our entire system. Kudos and thanks go to Principal Donna Denniston and all her staff. To paraphrase our district slogan, they have proved that “all schools can and will learn to function well.”
