Fore! — Rock Ridge Golf Results

Rock Ridge Country Club highlights from this past week are as follows:

Men’s Club   Championship

The 27-hole Men’s Club Championship continued over Labor Day Weekend. In the second round of match play, the top two seeds fell, opening the field up to all remaining players. On Monday, No. 9 Larry McCoy and No. 6 Mark Curtis went heads up in the 36-hole final. McCoy held a strong lead after the first 18 holes, standing five up on Curtis who made a valiant comeback effort closing the gap to two down. McCoy’s steady play, however, closed out the match on the 31st hole.

Net Club Championship

While eight men played for the title of club champion over Labor Day weekend, the rest competed in the Net Club Championship. Getting away from flighted match play competition, Rock Ridge hosted the First Annual Net Club Championship. This new 36-hole stroke play event brings players of all levels together, using handicaps to even the playing field. After the first 18 holes on day one, Phil Cappelli had a commanding four-stroke lead after posting an eight under net score of 62. Cappelli was unable to match his spectacular play on day two of the tournament, but managed to hold off the field and take home first place. Second place honors went to Rick Varnum, with Marty Gersten finishing a close third.

Family Fun

On August 31, Rock Ridge held a Family Scramble Tournament. For the first time in this event, first place was decided in a match of cards, as the Spicci family and the Alexander family turned in a score of one under par. The Spicci family edged our the Alexander family at the scorers table, with the difference being a birdie on the last hole. With only two family tournaments remaining in 2008, the competition heats up as families battle to claim a title.
