Hope For A Critical Election

To the Editor:

As my family and I walked in the Labor Day Parade in support of Chris Lyddy, I was overwhelmed with the promise of the November election. As Newtown Democrats, we are privileged to be able to support such an outstanding slate on the national, state, and local levels in the candidacies of Barack Obama, Chris Murphy, and Chris Lyddy. Their candidacies have inspired record-breaking new voter registrations and political activism.

As a social work student I am proud to support fellow social worker Chris Lyddy, MSW, for the position of State Representative. As a social worker Chris is uniquely qualified to listen and respond to the needs of all Newtown residents. He is bound by the National Association of Social Workers Ethics that cite the core values of service, social justice, dignity, and worth of all people, importance of human relationships, integrity, and competence as well as, an ethical responsibility to the broader society. I wish all politicians and government officials were committed to these values and core principles.

Who better to represent Newtown than Chris Lyddy? He was raised in Newtown, attended Newtown public schools, and has volunteered in Newtown community since he was a teenager. Chris’ energy and enthusiasm is contagious. Nothing exemplifies this more than the fact that in the 2007 election, he received the highest number of votes among all candidates. As a mom, I am glad that our youth have Chris as a role model and a leader.

This election is critical. I encourage you to educate yourself about all the candidates. Learn more about Chris Lyddy by going to www.ChrisLyddy.com and restore your faith in politicians. Vote on November 4 for change and hope.
