One Can At A Time

Made A Huge Difference

To everyone who donated to the food drive:

When I started the idea of a food drive, I had no idea how successful it would be. Would enough people know to bring their food to the parade? When I set a goal of 1,000 cans, it sounded so big.

I am happy to say that my goal was not big enough. We collected four trucks full of food! It was 2,455 items of food plus $250 in cash. In true Newtown generosity, every bag had much more than one can and with items from the list. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I would like to say a special thanks to the team who helped me collect: Jack Benedict, Austin Cirella, Tyler Coleman, Hanna DeFlumeri, Ryan and Tom Diluffo, Craig and Andrew Nichols, Sara McMann, Matt Rosa, Ruth and Emily Rowe, Rob Russo, Molly Sheluck, and Stephanie and Will Shubert. Thank you to both the Nichols and Hanna families for letting us use their trucks. Thank you also to our friends the Berminghams and the Newtown Rotary President Allen Clavette for letting us empty our trucks on their yards during the parade so we could collect even more! Finally, thank you to the Diluffo, Coleman, Manos, and Nichols families for helping to sort all 2,455 items.

As I walked through the parade, I kept on saying, “Oh my gosh!” because I just could not believe all of the people who brought bags of food. We already have three trucks lined up for next year because Newtown knows that 1 CAN really make(s) a difference!

Thank you!
