Still Close To Schedule—

St Rose School Construction Due To Be Done

By The End Of October

By Eliza Hallabeck

Since the demolition of St Patrick’s Hall in the end of May, construction for the new multipurpose building at St Rose School has been underway.

St Rose School Principal Mary Maloney said the original opening date for the project was October 2, and the school is now expecting to use the new facilities by October 20.

“It’s exciting,” said Mrs Maloney. “It really is exciting.”

The new building will be connected to the existing structure through a door that is currently a wall. Files and other storage items have been placed there at the moment, but the new facility will give the school more storage space.

“We’ll have our library and media center over there,” said Mrs Maloney. The library will have a large floor-to-ceiling window, and the design for the room is the architect’s signature room.

Mrs Maloney said the project was first started in November 2007, and since then money has been raised to finance the building.

“The town has been really positive with us,” said Mrs Maloney.

This year the school is celebrating its 50th anniversary and the new addition, Mrs Maloney said, is the perfect way to celebrate it.

“This is perfect timing,” she said. “Everyone is excited.”

The new building will also have a gathering hall for assemblies, lunch and kitchen. A window in the wall opens the gathering room to the kitchen where food is prepared and served to the students.

Mrs Maloney said the response to the project has been wonderful.

“The perception of the students and the families is ‘we can do anything to make this take place,’” she said.

The building has been under fantastic progression, according to Mrs Maloney, and students are excited to see it completed in October.
