Helen Margaret Vancza, 73, of Easton and formerly of Fairfield, beloved wife and mother, died peacefully August 30 at St Vincent's Medical Center in Bridgeport. She was born in Bridgeport, the daughter of the late Elizabeth (Bette) and Frank Scilagyi.

Her husband of 49 years, John Vancza of Easton; her two daughters, Valerie Vancza and her husband Edward Lucas of Newtown and Elizabeth Vancza of Easton; a brother-in-law, Kurt Engel of Bridgeport; and several nieces and nephews survive her.

Her two sisters, Betty Engel and Frances Temple, predeceased her.

Ms Vancza was a member of Notre Dame of Easton Catholic Church for more than 30 years and was a role model of Christian faith and love.

Prior to retirement, she worked as a medical billing and coding specialist, most recently at 3030 Park Health Center.

She was a hardworking woman, dedicated to putting the needs of others before her own. She will be most remembered as a loving and nurturing mother, devoted spouse, fun-loving baby sister, and caring best friend. Her laugh and smile were contagious, but her love of music, piano playing, and melodious voice will live on in her loved ones' hearts forever.

Friends may greet the family at The Larson Funeral Home, 2496 North Avenue, Bridgeport, on Tuesday, September 5, from 11 am until the time of the funeral service at 1 pm. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association at diabetes.org.
