Meant To Be Here

To the Editor:

Earlier today, I had the pleasure of marching in my twelfth Labor Day Parade. As your Republican candidate to replace the departing Christopher Lyddy and represent most of Newtown in the Connecticut General Assembly, I was moved and energized by the welcome and reception my team and I received from a huge majority of paradegoers. Thank you.

Overwhelmingly, your collective warm greetings, shouts of “Mitch for Newtown,” thumbs-up, hand shakes, and hugs reminded me why I am dedicating myself to this campaign. You. In the 12 years my family and I have called Newtown home, we have always known we were meant to be here. Practically from day one, 12 years ago, when I became a Cub Scout leader, I have wanted to serve this community and have done so in many roles; from Cubmaster to Board of Ethics; Economic Development Commissioner to Justice of the Peace; from RTC vice chairman to Legislative Councilman. I know the meaning of “Nicer in Newtown” and always try my best to make things a little better than I found them.

We are blessed to live in a special place, in good times and bad. I know, firsthand, the struggles of these tough economic times; what it takes to raise a family; the hardships of caring for aging parents. I also know it’s all more manageable with the help of family, friends, and good neighbors. I believe, as do most of you, that big government is not the answer.

We must make Connecticut a more business-friendly place where good jobs can be attracted so we, our children, and our grandchildren can thrive. We must also reverse the unchecked spending, borrowing and taxing being laid on the doorsteps of every Connecticut man, woman, and child by today’s democrat-controlled House, Senate and Governor’s Mansion. Help me help you stop their soon-to-be-insurmountable mountain of debt.

So, beginning with our strong, positive, energetic parade presence, I dedicate a positive campaign to you, asking for your vote on Tuesday, November 6. I want to improve the way our state does business so we can feel the benefits — right here in Newtown!
