Margaret “Peggy” (Steck) Valine, 78, of Boynton Beach, Fla., formerly of Newtown, Danbury, and East Haven, died unexpectedly August 20. She was the wife of the late Wilbur “Willie” Carl Valine, Jr. She was born in Danbury, May 14, 1937. One of four children, she was the daughter of the late Edwin Albert and Marguerite Dooley Steck.

She attended St Peter Elementary School and graduated from Danbury High School in 1955. Upon graduation, she attended Virginia Intermont College in Bristol, Va., and then went on to have an exceptionally successful 35-year career with Southern New England Telephone in Connecticut.

It was there that she became reacquainted with the love of her life, Willie Valine, after having first met each other at the Danbury Town Park, where he would lifeguard for the summer. They married on February 11, 1961, and enjoyed many happy years at their home in Newtown.

Mrs Valine enjoyed more than 20 years living at Shell Beach in East Haven, where she was quite active in the condominium association, before moving permanently to Boynton Beach. Her many interests included reading, watching movies, traveling, enjoying time in the sun and, most importantly, spending time with friends and family.

She will be greatly missed by her many friends at Snug Harbor and Ocean Ridge and her surviving family, her older brother Francis “Frank” Steck of Boynton Beach, younger brother Thomas Steck, and wife Barbara, of Yarmouth Port, Mass.; and many other relatives.

In addition to her husband and parents, her oldest brother, Edwin Steck, and a nephew predeceased Mrs Valine.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in Boynton Beach.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to the American Cancer Society www.cancer.org/donate, in Mrs Valine’s name, are requested.
