Newtown Friends of Music will present The Poulenc Trio, an ensemble consisting of piano, bassoon and oboe, in concert on Sunday, September 22, at 3 pm. The performance will be in Edmond Town Hall Theatre, 45 Main Street in Newtown.

The trio has performed in more than 40 US states and at music festivals around the world. The Poulenc Trio has a strong commitment to commissioning, performing and recording new works from living composers, with 20 new works written for and premiered by the group. Each member – pianist Irina Kaplan, oboist Vladimir Lande and bassoonist Bryan Young — brings to the stage a wealth of experience in training and performance in the United States and around the world.

The Trio has also made a commitment to explore and promote music that reflects its members’ African, Pan-American, Eastern European and Jewish roots. Recent concerts have featured works by Afro-Cuban jazz great Paquito D’Rivera, Mexican-American composer Carlos Medina, Russian-American composer Nataliya Medvedovskaya and Yiddish Lexicon, an exploration of Jewish culture by composer Jakov Jakoulov.

On the program for the Newtown performance will be works by Glinka, Schnittke, Shostakovich, Vasquez and, of course, Poulenc.

Tickets are $25, cash or check only, and will be available at the box office beginning at 2 pm the afternoon of the concert.

Students K through 12 are admitted free of charge when accompanied by a ticket-holding adult.

Parking is free behind Edmond Town Hall and the facility is handicap accessible. An informal reception following the concert will offer concert goers the opportunity to meet and mingle with the musicians.
