Thomas J. “Tom” Eaton, devoted husband of Elizabeth Eaton (Mahoney), passed away peacefully in his Sandy Hook home on September 6, 2026, surrounded by his family.

Born July 10, 1941, Tom was the eldest of four children born to Harry and Rita Bergin Eaton of Stratford. Tom graduated from Stratford High, attended University of Bridgeport, and became a United States Marine. After the Marine Corps reserves, Tom went on to a successful career as a computer program analyst with several prominent local companies.

As a young man Tom enjoyed sports, fishing, traveling, music, and home remodeling projects. Later in life Tom never lost his love of music and sports, solving word & math problems, and spending time with his beloved family. Known for his quick wit and sarcastic sense of humor, Tom was intelligent, detail oriented, and a loving family man.

Tom was predeceased by his parents, brother Jack Eaton, nephew Shane Eaton, son Gary Eaton, sons-in-law Michael Annes and Ken Hensel, and his grandson Brandon Hensel.

He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years Elizabeth “Liz” Eaton, his sister Mary Smith and husband Garry, brother Paul Eaton and wife Kathy. Tom is also survived by his children Karen Eaton Hensel (Mike), Kristen Eaton Werden (Jason), Jamie Annes, Mary Glisson (Donnie), Joseph Rogers (Gwen); grandchildren Kyle Hensel (Kristen), Jordan Hensel (Christina), Delaney Werden (Cian), Alyssa Eaton (Max), Chris Annes (Kaitlin), Stephanie Annes (Nick), Nathan Pearson (Rachel), Kersti Johnson (Ben) and Thomas Rogers; and great-grandchildren Audrey, Khloe, Kennedy, Charlie, Jeremiah, Francesca, Jackson, Steele, and Kassidy. Tom is also survived by several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A memorial service and celebration of life will be held at Newtown Congregational Church, date to be determined.
