Newtown residents have four opportunities to receive flu and pneumonia vaccines from RVNAhealth this season without leaving town.

The first is this weekend, at Newtown Community Center. The public is invited to 8 Simpson Street on Saturday, September 18, between 9 am and noon, to receive a regular (quadrivalent, for ages 6 months and older) or high-dose (ages 65 and older) flu vaccine.

Pneumonia vaccines will also be available.

All vaccines are preservative free.

The vaccines are administered by RVNAhealth nurses.

There are no appointments for the walk-in clinics, and most insurance is accepted for the vaccines.

For those without a participating insurance plan, cost is $45 for regular/quadrivalent and $70 for high-dose vaccines.

Influenza vaccines for those age 18 and under are provided at no cost, regardless of insurance status, courtesy of the State of Connecticut. To help make getting a flu shot appealing for the younger crowd, RVNAhealth offers them cute ice packs if needed, band-aids, stickers, and a coupon for a free ice cream compliments of Deborah Ann’s Sweet Shoppe in Ridgefield.

Additional Newtown clinics are scheduled for Saturday, October 9, from 10 am to 1 pm, at Newtown Middle School, 11 Queen Street; Saturday, October 16, from 9 am to noon, at the middle school; and Saturday, November 13, from 10 am to 1 pm, also at the middle school.

As of this week, there are several other RVNAhealth vaccine clinics scheduled through the region through mid-November. Visit the organization’s website, rvnahealth.org, for the current schedule.

RVNAhealth also schedules in-home visits and at its offices in Ridgefield; visit the website for full details.

RVNAhealth — formerly RVNA or Ridgefield Visiting Nurse Association — is a private, nonprofit, mission-driven organization founded and focused on care. While its name and services have evolved since its founding as a home health care agency in 1914, its guiding principles have remained steadfast: a mission to serve, exceptional patient care, and a commitment to excellence in quality and service.

RVNAhealth is anticipating a busy flu vaccine season. To make sure clinics run as smoothly as possible, volunteers are always needed and welcome. Anyone interested in learning more is invited to contact Laura Cordeira at lcordeira@rvnahealth.org or 203-438-5555, extension 1102.
