To the Editor,

My name is Dan Cruson Jr, and I am running for reelection to the Board of Education.

I was born and raised in Newtown and returned with my family six years ago so my sons could attend Newtown Public Schools. In my 30 total years in Newtown, I have been a student, employee, and parent of students in the school district.

This has given me a unique perspective among other members of the Board as I have seen where we have been in addition to looking forward to where we could be in the future.

I have been on the Board for five years, four of which as Secretary to the Board, and during that time have had the opportunity to work with all my fellow board members, regardless of political affiliation, on projects to improve the experience in the schools.

Some of the more exciting parts I have played as a member of the Board of Education include:

*Helping to select a new Superintendent

*Being part of the Start Time Committee, researching the benefits and challenges of the High School starting an hour later.

*Creating a brand-new Board of Education newsletter to bring highlights from around the district to members of the greater Newtown community

*Participating in the search for a new Coordinator of Equity and Inclusion to work with the district.

I feel that I have brought a logical approach and a spirit of collaboration to my time on the Board which has led to valuable contributions that have improved the experience for all students and staff. It is my hope that come November I will be fortunate enough to earn another four years working on the Newtown Board of Education.

Dan Cruson Jr. Newtown
