Newtown High School's girls' soccer team used great teamwork to create chances and capitalized time and again on the way to a 7-0 win over visiting New Milford at Blue & Gold Stadium on September 11. Each goal was scored by a different player, all but one tally were assisted, and four Nighthawks picked up assists in a strong all-around team effort.

Coming off a 1-0 loss at Weston in the season opener, the Hawks set out to share the ball and put it into the back of the net against a good goaltender, Coach Adam Bourret said. Newtown's offense racked up a baker's dozen corner kicks in a dominant effort.

Goals were scored by Makenzie Fregoe, Blake Heim-Sherwood, Delia Stango, Amelia Bossio-Dotolo, Summer Chaljub, Olivia Fernandes, and Natalie delCampo. Stango had three assists, and Fernandes, Fregoe, and Lindsey Civitelli assisted net-finders.

The Nighthawks hosted Masuk of Monroe on September 15 and the team supported the 15 For Life Foundation, helping support its mission to open dialogue about depression and mental health. Elise Ansman, Sadie Singlak, and Ana Morris were ambassadors for the event. Bourret noted that 15 For Life Founder Jeff Kavovit is doing great things for the town and it was an honor to support the cause. As for the game, Newtown lost 2-1. Fernandes scored off a long free kick by Gianna Mascaro early in the second half, but the Panthers struck twice in the final 15 minutes.
