David L. Gaines

David L. Gaines, 61, died September 18 at his home on High Meadow Road in Brookfield.

Mr Gaines was born in El Reno, Okla., May 2, 1939, son of the late Watson and Germaine (Charron) Gaines. He came to Danbury in 1940 and graduated from Henry Abbott Tech School in 1956. He lived in Newtown for 30 years and moved to Brookfield a year ago. Mr Gaines was an excavator and owner of the Gaines Excavation Company for 30 years. He was a mechanic for the Dan Ridge Chevrolet Company in Danbury before starting the excavation company.

Mr Gaines is survived by his son, David “Chip” Gaines, with whom he made his home; four daughters, Susan J. Mykulowycz and Tami J. LaValla, both of Boxford, Mass., Tracy L. Gaines of Hermosa Beach, Calif., and Keri S. Gaines of Brookfield; five grandchildren; Nicholas and Patrick Mykulowycz and Katie, Kristopher, and Kane LaValla; and his sister, Rochelle, and niece, Amy Patrick, both of Danbury. Those who knew David knew him as a loyal friend and wonderful father. He was loved dearly by all his family.

Funeral services will be held at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury, on Saturday, September 23, at 6 pm. Cremation will follow at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the Cornell Memorial on Saturday from 4 to 6 pm.
