Cross Country Teams Race In First Meet Of Year

Newtown High School’s girls’ and boys’ cross country teams visited Brookfield to face the host Bobcats, Immaculate of Danbury, and Masuk of Monroe on September 14.

The girls’ squad edged Brookfield 27-28, defeated Immaculate 24-33, and topped Masuk 16-45.

Emily Litke was third in a time of 22:37, Clara D’Amico came in fifth in 22:57, Grace Chiriatti was seventh in 23:02, and Britta Peterson came in eighth in 23:09. Chloe Karnas was 14th, crossing the finish in a time of 24:42, Alexa Norton placed 17th in 26:29, and Grace Lyons was 18th in 26:34.

In the boys’ meet, Newtown bested Brookfield 24-32, fell to Immaculate 21-34, and beat Masuk 15-49.

Immaculate’s Seamus Reilly, a Newtown resident, was first overall with a time of 18:10.

Newtown was led by Aidan Budge in fourth with a time of 19.02. Sam Staubly came in eighth in 19.53, Mitchell Schrader was ninth in 20.04, and Dan Sibley placed tenth in 20.14. Stephen Sibley was 12th in 20.23, Saahil Ray came in 15th in 20.45, Jeremy Pankow was 18th in 20.5, and Amdrew Arena 20th in a time of 20.53. Andy Zhang was 23rd in 21.04 and Colby Harrell 24th in 21.07.
