The members of Newtown Underwater Search And Rescue (NUSAR) voted last week on the men and women who will serve as the organization’s officers for the next term, which begins in October.

Following a vote on September 13, the following were elected: Chief, Mike McCarthy, Assistant Chief, Dr Mike Cassetta, Captain, Connor Rieve, and Lieutenant, Hans Williams.

Also, President, Brian Solt; Vice President, Richard Wilford; Treasurer, Jim Hancock; Secretary, Adam Mack; and Member-at-Large, Sarah Coccaro.

NUSAR is an all volunteer emergency response team dedicated to saving lives through search and rescue operations by providing professionally trained members for water rescue and recovery incidents. The team also promotes water safety awareness education.

NUSAR is currently accepting applications for new members. General meetings are held on the second Monday of each month.

Drills are the third Sunday of each month, with alternate drills on Thursday nights during the summer.

It is strongly encouraged that new members be certified open water divers (or higher), but non-divers are welcome on the team.

Individuals must be relatively fit, capable of lifting 100 pounds, and able to pass an annual dive physical.

Visit NUSAR.org for additional information and a Membership Application.
