Basic Open Water Scuba classes will be offered Tuesdays (classroom and pool) starting September 26. Classes will meet from 7:30 to 9:30 pm at Newtown High School. Taught by Michael McCarthy, the program is open to those 12 and up. Cost is $185 plus $70 (payable to instructor for gear rental and check out dives). Students will need mask, snorkel and fins (scuba gear for pool training provided). Certification is through Scuba School International. A junior certification will be issued to students under 14 years.
Girls On The Run is an experiential learning program for girls in grades 3 through 5 that combines training for a 3.1 mile run/walk (5K) with life changing, self esteem, enhancing, uplifting warm-ups and workouts that encourage emotional, social, mental, spiritual and physical development. Program meets Tuesdays and Thursdays, 4:15 to 5:15 pm, at Hawley School (field and/or gym), September 19 through December 5.
Teaches Basketball Program has been providing youth programs for 18 years with the focus on fundamentals and participation. All participants will receive a shirt, shorts bag and water bottle. Program will meet Wednesdays, 5:30 to 6:30 pm, October 4 through November 8, for those in grades K through 3 and Mondays, 5:30 to 6:30 pm, September 25 through November 13, for those in grades 3 through 5. All classes will meet at Middle Gate School. Fee is $175 per player.
Swim Lessons will begin Thursday, October 5, or Saturday, October 7, at Newtown High School. Saturdays will be for Level I (10 to 10:30 am), Level II (10:30 to 11:15 am) and Level III (11:15 to 12 noon) swimmers while Thursdays will be for Level III ( 7 to 7:45 pm), Level IV and V (7 to 7:45 pm), Level III (7:45 to 8:30 pm) and Level VI (7:45 to 8:30 pm).
