Cruise Into Aldrich Museum For

First Thursday Cocktail Hour

RIDGEFIELD — Don’t store those classic cars away yet. Cruise on over to The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum in your custom ride and enjoy the music of Motown when the museum presents its next First Thursdays: A Contemporary Cocktail Hour on October 5 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm.

Drinks, snacks, tours of the museum’s exhibitions, as well as the sounds of The Four Tops, Marvin Gaye, Martha Reeves and The Vandellas, the Supremes, and others, spun by DJ Brian Blair, will highlight this autumn evening. Inspired by California artist Lewis deSoto’s “Conquest” and “Cahuilla” vehicles in the current exhibition “No Reservations,” car culture will meet art in the galleries of the museum.

Admission is $10 for members, $15 for non-members, but drivers arriving in a classic auto will be offered reduced admission. Guests purchasing new memberships will enter free.

Lewis deSoto’s car sculptures are fully-functioning automobiles, created life-size, focusing on his ancestry — half colonist, half Native. “Conquest” traces the convoluted history of his surname, while “Cahuilla” focuses on the changing fortunes of his Native tribe, but car aficionados will just want to check under the hood.

With ten artists, two full cars, a museum within a museum, a community based project that involves sewing, stories, philanthropy and 800 blankets, and “a truly fascinating theme,” says public relations manager Alison Pratt, “No Reservations” is on view until February 25 at The Aldrich Museum.

The museum, at 258 Main Street in Ridgefield, can be contacted by calling 203-438-4519. Reservations are not needed to attend First Thursday Cocktail Hour.
