Medical Town Meetings, Diabetes Series At Danbury Hospital
DANBURY â Danbury Hospital kicks off its autumn Medical Town Meeting series this month with a program focusing on sports-related injuries September 25 at 7 pm. The talk, entitled: âDonât Get Sidelined: Advances in Treating Sports-Related Injuries,â will feature a panel of orthopedic specialists from Danbury Hospital discussing injuries that can happen to competitive runners as well as weekend warriors, occasional visitors to the gym and teenage athletes.
The panel will include:
éCraig Foster, MD, Danbury Hospital Center for Advanced Orthopedic Care and practicing physician with Danbury Orthopedic Associates, discussing injuries to the upper extremities.
éJames DePuy, MD, Danbury Hospital Center for Advanced Orthopedic Care and practicing physician with Connecticut Family Orthopedics, talking about caring for injured athletes on the field.
éRoss Henshaw, MD, director, Sports Medicine Program, Danbury Hospital Center for Advanced Orthopedic Care, and practicing physician with Danbury Orthopedic Associates, addressing the issue of athletes using performance enhancement drugs.
The hospitalâs autumn Medical Town Meeting series continues the following day with a topic of interest to most men â prostate problems.
âUpdate on New Treatments for Benign Prostatic Hypersplasia (BPH) and Prostate Cancerâ takes place September 26 at 7 pm at Danbury Hospital.
A panel of urologic and cancer specialists from Danbury Hospital will discuss the new medical and surgical treatments for BPH, a noncancerous enlargement of the prostate, and prostate cancer.
The panel will include:
éWilliam Hennessey MD, Danbury Hospital Department of Surgery, Section of Urology, Urology Associates of Danbury PC.
éJohn Spera, MD, Danbury Hospital Department of Radiology, Section of Radiation Oncology.
They will discuss the medical and surgical treatments for prostate enlargement, surgical management of prostate cancer, and radiation therapy approach to the treatment of prostate cancer.

In other news, Danbury Hospital will offer the next series of free Wednesday evening diabetes education classes. The classes take place at Danbury Hospital, 24 Hospital Avenue on Wednesday, October, 4, 11, and 18 in the Fifth Floor, South Building conference room from 6 to 8 pm.
Diabetes education classes are geared toward group learning, and are not intended for individual counseling. The goal of the classes is to help patients and family members gain an understanding of the relationship between blood sugars, activity, and eating habits in order to successfully manage diabetes.
