New Art At The Library

Patty Meglio, an artist who paints with oil on canvas will have an exhibit, “Visions of Tranquility,” at the library beginning September 30. A reception will take place on Sunday, October 8, from 2 to 4 pm. The public is invited to attend.

The show will run through October 20 during regular library hours (Monday through Thursday, 10 am-8 pm; Friday, 12-5 pm; Saturday, 10 am-5 pm; and Sunday, 1-5.)

Children’s Programs

*Nutmeg Book Discussion: Warriors by Joseph Bruchac will be the next book discussed in our Nutmeg series on Wednesday, September 27, beginning at 4 pm.

Jake has left the reservation for Weltimore Academy and entered a different world. Everyone there loves lacrosse, but no one understands it the way Jake does, as an Iroquois. And no one understands Jake either.

Readers in grades 4-6 are welcome to join the hour-long discussion.

*Author Visit – Suzanne Collins: Fans of the Gregor the Overlander series should mark their calendars now!

Author Suzanne Collins will be at C.H. Booth Library on Sunday, October 21, from 3 to 4:30 pm. Ms Collins will be talking about the first four books in her popular series, answer questions, and maybe even hint at what might take place in the next installment of the series.

An author signing session will follow. Books will be available for purchase on the day of the program.

Adult Programs

*Book discussions: Upcoming programs include September 21, a discussion of Suite Francaise by Irene Nemirovsky starting at 7:30 pm; October 3, Friday Night Lights by H.G. *Wellness Series: The library is hosting a six-part series, “Enhancing Wellness,” on Tuesdays until October 17. Learn easy ways to take care of yourself and your family, reduce stress, and promote inner peace.

Programs run from 7 to 9 pm, and the next one, on September 26, will “Centering and Creativity.” Upcoming classes will be October 3, “Relieving Stress with a Spa Experience at Home”; October 10, “Botanical Medicine”; and October 17, “Nutrition.”

Please call the library to register, as space is limited.

*Tertulia Literaria: A new club for those who enjoy reading and speaking in Spanish, Tertulia Literaria has been launched by Newtown resident Laura Humpries Ross. The club is not a class. There is no teacher, and registration is not needed to participate. Ms Ross stresses that having an academic degree is not, in any way, necessary. Only a strong interest and a comfortable proficiency in reading and speaking Spanish are needed

Programs take place in the library’s board room once each month. Titles selected for the first year include a cross section of contemporary authors from Spain, Mexico, South America, and Cuba. Members are responsible for obtaining their own books (in Spanish), which are readily available online and at some of the larger bookstores and libraries.

The prize-winning La nieve del almirante by Alvaro Mutis will be discussed on October 19.

*Celebrating Book Groups: C.H. Booth Library is planning a party and reception celebrating all of the book groups in town.

Please call  the library 426-4533 with the name of a contact person so we can get your input and include your book group in the fun.

*Book Nook: Books to help get your garden ready for winter are among those featured in the Book Nook next to the main circulation desk. Brand new books suitable for gift giving on fall landscaping, bulbs and landscape design are all currently available. Check out these great books at great prices.
