Will Join International Celebration

Of Daniel Pearl

BROOKFIELD — The Deming String Quartet will perform on Sunday, October 8, at 3 pm, at The Brookfield Library. The concert will be part of Daniel Pearl World Music Day, an international concert series coordinated by The Daniel Pearl Foundation.  Musicians Larry Deming, Diane Orson, Barbara Wiggins and Mary Costanza will play a selection of classical pieces with the theme  “Immortal Melodies.”

Daniel Pearl World Music Days was created in response to the 2002 kidnapping and murder of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl at the hands of extremists in Karachi, Pakistan. Mr Pearl’s family and friends joined together to work toward a more humane world, forming The Daniel Pearl Foundation, whose mission is to promote cross-cultural understanding through journalism, music and dialogue.

Mr Pearl was a talented musician who joined musical groups in every community in which he lived, leaving behind a long trail of musician-friends spanning the entire globe. Commemorating his October 10 birthday, World Music Days will use the universal language of music to encourage fellowship across cultures.

The event at Brookfield Library is the sole concert in Connecticut registered as part of this worldwide celebration of Daniel Pearl’s life and legacy.

The concert is also part of the library’s “Afternoons at the Arbor” concert series. Admission is free and a refreshments will be served. For more information, contact The Brookfield Library Community Services Department, 775-6241 extension 104.

The library is at 182 Whisconier Road (Route 25) in Brookfield Center.
