Portfolio Tips for High School Students Looking Into Art Schools
RIDGEFIELD â The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum is inviting high school juniors and seniors to attend two free events this fall designed to help them plan for art school.
Bill Swan, an admissions counselor at Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, N.Y., will give a Portfolio Talk on Thursday, October 5, at 4 pm. He will provide students and their parents with insights into what art schools and universities expect to see in an art studentâs application portfolio.
Due to Mr Swanâs involvement in the admissions process at Pratt, he is able to provide expert advice as to what type of work should be included, tips on how the work should be presented, as well as what not to do in a submission.
On Monday, October 23, from 3 to 7 pm, The Aldrich will host Portfolio Review Day as a follow-up to the talk. This annual event attracts representatives of premier art schools and universities from throughout the United States, including Rhode Island School of Design, The Art Institute of Chicago, and the School of Visual Arts.
The Portfolio Talk and Portfolio Review Day are free to the public, and reservations are not required. For questions or additional information, call 203-438-4519. The museum is at 258 Main Street (Route 35).
Throughout the year, The Aldrich provides various opportunities for students interested in the arts, such as the renowned Student Docent Program, the intense nine-month-long Art Lab for juniors and seniors, exhibition openings, and teen events.
